Number 4. Travel south from Cusco by bus or train and arrive of the lakeside town of Puno. These islands are made completely of reeds that grow locally on the lake. Every six months the local people put a new layer of reeds giving the island a spongy sensation when you walk on them. For hundreds of years the Eros people have lived on the islands, legend has it that the people made the islands to escape warring tribes on the mainland. You will arrive in the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, where you travel on one of the many rivers until you reach one of the jungle lodges located in the area.
